In the face of rising trade tensions between India and the United States, key figures in India's agricultural sector have thrown their support behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This comes after the US announced a significant 25 percent tariff hike on Indian goods.
Prominent voices such as Senior Agriculture Scientist Anupam Varma commend the Prime Minister's unyielding message, emphasizing that the government must remain steadfast in its commitment to farmer welfare. 'PM Modi is sending the right signal globally, avoiding any compromise on farmer interests,' Varma stated.
Additionally, Pooja Sharma, a Rashtrapati Award-winning agriculture professional, echoed this support, highlighting the integral role farmers play in national advancement. 'Farmers are the nation's backbone. Our country's progress hinges on their profitability,' she asserted, applauding Modi's dedication to the sector.
National Award-winning agriculturist Kunal Gahlot praised the government's resistance to foreign trade pressures, underscoring the negative impact foreign dairy imports could have on local farmers. 'The government's decision to limit foreign company access protects our farmers from potential losses,' Gahlot noted.
Prime Minister Modi had preemptively addressed these tensions, staunchly opposing the U.S.'s intensified demands for access to India's agriculture market, reiterating India's steadfast priorities towards its farmers, fishermen, and dairy producers.
