Rouzbeh Vadi, an Iranian nuclear scientist, was executed on Wednesday for allegedly sharing sensitive information about Iran's nuclear program with Israel's Mossad spy agency, according to state broadcaster IRIB.
Mizan, the judiciary's news outlet, reported that Vadi, who held a PhD in nuclear engineering, was convicted of espionage, specifically for passing data regarding Fordow and Natanz uranium enrichment plants. Vadi reportedly confessed in a video aired by IRIB, detailing his meetings with Mossad agents and his efforts to receive payment through cryptocurrency.
The execution contributes to an increased trend of espionage-related executions in Iran this year. Iran and Israel have been engaged in heightened tensions, with recent missile and drone exchanges following targeted air strikes on Iranian nuclear sites and personnel.
