The Supreme Court bench, headed by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, is scrutinizing an appeal filed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Guruvayoor Infrastructure Ltd. The plea challenges a Kerala High Court decision to temporarily suspend toll collections at Paliyekkara toll plaza due to poor road conditions.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta attributed recent traffic blocks to an overturned truck; however, the justices dismissed this as an accident caused by potholes. The court has reserved judgment on the appeal, with the focus firmly on the safety and fairness of toll practices for beleaguered commuters.
