Rahul Mamkootathi, the Congress Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), has stepped down as the State President of the Youth Congress following serious allegations of obscene conduct brought against him by writer Honey Bhaskaran and model Rini Ann George.

These accusations prompted Congress leader V.D. Satheesan, Kerala's Leader of the Opposition, to promise a comprehensive investigation. Satheesan emphasized that, if the charges are proven serious, the party would not show leniency. He affirmed that Mamkootathi would have the opportunity to present his side before decisive action is taken.

Model Rini Ann George has accused Mamkootathi of sending offensive messages and threatening her when she considered exposing him. The controversy has sparked protests from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who marched to Mamkootathi's office demanding his resignation.
