Uganda is forecasting a 14.8% leap in its coffee production for the 2025/26 crop year, spurred by the high yields of newly-planted acreage, according to a senior official from the agricultural ministry.

The East African nation, already Africa's leading coffee exporter, primarily grows the robusta variety, which has seen increased production and exports due to a worldwide coffee price surge and the maturing of newly planted trees.

Gerald Kyalo, the agriculture ministry's commissioner for coffee, revealed Uganda's production goal of 9.3 million 60-kilogram bags in the upcoming season, up from 8.1 million in the previous period. The government, under President Yoweri Museveni, has been distributing free seedlings and fertilizers to farmers, striving to reach an annual production of 30 million bags by 2030. Uganda's coffee exports have already generated $2.2 billion, marking a 57% increase from the previous year.
