Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), managed by Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), has been awarded Level 5 accreditation by the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme – the highest level within this globally acknowledged framework. This places CSMIA among a select group of 30 international airports, including four in India, with advanced decarbonisation maturity.

The accolade underscores CSMIA's commitment to environmental sustainability, demonstrating its operational net-zero emissions (Scope 1 and 2) as well as a validated plan to achieve net-zero Scope 3 emissions by 2050. According to a statement from MIAL, the recognition reflects a data-driven approach anchored in the 'Measure, Manage, Reduce, and Communicate' principle, supported by robust ESG policies and initiatives.

CSMIA is also India's first and the world's third airport to receive Level 5 Accreditation for Airport Customer Experience from Airports Council International (ACI). MIAL's efforts include significant investments in green technologies, transitioning to 100 percent renewable electricity since August 2022, and other sustainable initiatives that align with global climate goals. This dedication is mirrored in its 98% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions since FY2022.
