In a landmark celebration on Vijay Diwas, President of India Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the Param Vir Dirgha at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday. The gallery is dedicated to the 21 Param Vir Chakra recipients, India's highest military honor, highlighting their extraordinary courage and sacrifice.
This initiative not only pays homage to bravehearts who defended the nation but also signifies a movement away from the colonial past. The space, once reserved for portraits of British aides-de-camp, now proudly displays the valiant tales of national heroes, embodying India's cultural and historical pride.
Vijay Diwas, observed every December 16, commemorates India's 1971 victory leading to Bangladesh's liberation. The Indian Army's tribute on social media underscores the decisive battle's significance, recalling how the Indian Armed Forces and Mukti Bahini's joint efforts reshaped South Asia's geopolitical landscape, birthing the nation of Bangladesh.
