In a recent parliamentary session, it was disclosed that the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) has yet to submit an evaluation report on nano urea, despite its four-year presence in the market. This revelation highlights ongoing concerns as sales continue to trail production figures.
Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Anupriya Patel addressed a query from Gujarat's BJP MP, Narhari Amin, confirming that IFFCO hasn't reported on nano urea adoption. The fertiliser has seen sales of 11.62 crore bottles against a production of 14.11 crore bottles up until November 2025, leaving 2.49 crore unsold.
Amidst this backdrop, the government has launched independent studies, aligning with the National Productivity Council and ICAR, to assess the impact and efficiency of nano urea compared to traditional fertilisers. Notably, the Gujarat government supports farmers with financial aid for purchasing nano urea, while the Centre refrains from such assistance.
