Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the 3rd International Kite Festival in Delhi, proposing the city as India's national hub for kite celebrations. He urged the Delhi government and Delhi Development Authority to form a committee dedicated to expanding the festival and involving public participation for a nationwide event.

Highlighting the cultural significance, Shah quoted poet Kalidasa, emphasizing India's love for festivals and the role of festivals like Uttarayan in unifying society. He recounted the historic protest against the Simon Commission, where kites symbolizing resistance filled the skies during Uttarayan, showcasing collective strength against British rule.

On the millennium anniversary of the first attack on the Somnath temple, Shah praised its resilience, noting that those who despoiled it are missing from history, while the temple endures as a testament to Sanatana Dharma's immortality. He mentioned PM Modi's efforts to commemorate this heritage through the Somnath Swabhiman Parv.
