Vijay, leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and actor-turned-politician, is scheduled to appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Delhi today. The inquiry is part of the ongoing investigation into the tragic stampede in Karur that resulted in 41 deaths during a political campaign in September 2025.
The CBI's investigation, which took over from local authorities following a Supreme Court order, is concentrating on critical aspects such as event timing discrepancies and crowd coordination failures. Key issues include a substantial delay before Vijay's arrival, leading to crowd overflow and loss of control, swelling from 10,000 to 30,000 attendees.
Scrutiny extends to party and administrative responsibilities, including risk assessment and logistics management during the event. Questions arise over the availability of crowd management measures like entry and exit points, as well as coordination between Vijay's team and local police. The inquiry also focuses on understanding Vijay's awareness and response timeline regarding the stampede.
