Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, has confirmed the continuity of the Mazi Ladki Bahin scheme despite recent observations from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). Speaking at a campaign rally, Shinde highlighted the scheme's profound impact on women's lives, promising an increase in monthly assistance from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,100 at an opportune time.
The scheme, distributing Rs 45,000 crore, has reportedly fostered significant female entrepreneurship, enabling beneficiaries to initiate small businesses with the monthly stipend. Launched in June 2024 under Shinde's leadership, the initiative targets women aged 21 to 65, providing crucial financial support through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Shinde criticized the opposition for insufficient post-disaster support, contrasting it with the government's commitment to women's welfare. Notably, the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme significantly contributed to the BJP and Shiv Sena's success in the 2024 assembly elections, exemplifying effective governance in action.
