Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to digitally disburse Rs 19,000 crore to 9.32 crore farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme on March 13, according to a senior official from the agriculture ministry.
The release, which marks the 22nd instalment of the scheme, will occur from Guwahati, Assam. Launched in February 2019, PM-Kisan has been providing Rs 6,000 annually to each farmer in three instalments. These funds are designed to help farmers acquire necessary inputs like seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, particularly in anticipation of the kharif sowing season.
Historically, instalments have been distributed in February or March, June or July, and October. From its inception to the 21st instalment, the scheme has disbursed approximately Rs 4.09 lakh crore, affirming its status as a critical direct benefit transfer initiative within the agriculture sector.
