In a significant political development, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi declared on Tuesday that the current disruptions in the natural gas supply chain are validating earlier warnings by Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha. Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, she emphasized that many of Rahul Gandhi's predictions have now come to fruition.
This statement comes after the government resorted to the Essential Commodities Act to secure domestic energy stability. As per the Petroleum Ministry, a control order has been issued to refineries and petrochemical facilities, demanding the maximization of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production and diversion of hydrocarbons to the LPG pool, ensuring uninterrupted cooking gas supplies across the nation.
Echoing similar concerns, Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav criticized the government's perceived lack of earnestness towards energy security, accusing it of following U.S. directives regarding oil procurement. Earlier in March, Rahul Gandhi had forewarned of impending oil supply threats, highlighting the Prime Minister's silence amidst looming crises as a compromise of India's strategic autonomy.
