An initial technical investigation into the devastating explosion at the Vedanta power plant in Chhattisgarh has pinpointed the cause: excessive fuel accumulation inside the boiler furnace. Police officials reported that this led to a dangerous pressure build-up, culminating in the fatal explosion.

The incident, which occurred on April 14 in Singhitarai village, resulted in the death of 20 workers and left 16 others with severe burn injuries. According to the Chief Boiler Inspector's initial report, the pressure forced a critical pipe out of its place, causing the catastrophe.

Further findings from the Forensic Science Laboratory corroborated that poor maintenance and operational failures by Vedanta and its contractor NGSL were to blame. A police FIR has been filed, citing negligence, and names several individuals including Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal. The investigation is ongoing.
