Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar confirmed on Thursday that the much-anticipated Yettinahole Integrated Drinking Water Supply Project is scheduled to begin within a week. This announcement came in the aftermath of a Social Greater Bengaluru Authority meeting where officials reviewed the project. Shivakumar mentioned that previous objections from the forest department have been resolved by providing alternative lands and a budget allocation of Rs 257 Crores to expedite the process, highlighting immediate commitment by directing his department to fulfill this budget today itself.

At a high-level review held by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM, issues concerning recent rainfall in Bengaluru and its repercussions were also discussed. The meeting, chaired by GBA Chairman Maheshwar Rao, included Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, MLA Rizwan Arshad, and other officials.

Earlier in the day, DK Shivakumar addressed the collapse of a hospital wall which resulted in the tragic deaths of seven individuals at the Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hospital in Bengaluru. In response, the state government directed authorities to inspect hospital infrastructure statewide. An expert team will evaluate structures at notable institutions, such as the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hospital and Victoria Hospital, ensuring comprehensive safety assessments.
