The somber air enveloped a Delhi neighborhood as the bodies of three family members, victims of the Jabalpur boat capsizing, were brought home for their final rites on Saturday. The tragedy claimed 40-year-old Marina, her mother Madhur, and her 4-year-old son, Jahaan, during a family outing disrupted by disaster.
A mass of mourners—relatives, neighbors, and friends—came together to honor the deceased trio. The family had joined a group of six on a trip, yet only three survived, including Marina's husband Pradeep. The incident, which unfolded at Bargi Dam in Madhya Pradesh, resulted in nine fatalities with search efforts persisting for missing individuals.
In the wake of grief, Marina's family voiced accusations of negligence. Gladvin, Marina's brother, criticized the decision to sail despite weather warnings, citing lack of safety measures like life jackets. The local authority's oversight is questioned as they allowed the cruise amid storm alerts, a mistake highlighting urgent preventive shortcomings.
