OPEC+ Struggles Amid Gulf Disruptions: Symbolic Oil Output Hike Discussed
OPEC+ plans a symbolic oil output increase amid ongoing disruptions caused by the U.S.-Iran conflict. Despite agreeing to raise targets by 188,000 barrels a day, geopolitical tensions continue to hinder Gulf oil exports. This decision comes amidst rising oil prices and potential global jet fuel shortages.
OPEC+ is set to agree on a modest oil output hike, as sources confirm, amid prolonged tensions from the U.S.-Iran conflict which continues to disrupt Gulf oil supplies.
Seven countries in the alliance are prepared to elevate oil output targets by about 188,000 barrels per day in June, marking the third consecutive monthly increase. This move is mostly symbolic, aimed at showcasing readiness to boost supplies once geopolitical tensions ease.
However, the ongoing closure of the Strait of Hormuz severely impacts exports from major producers like Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Kuwait. The disruption has driven oil prices to heights unseen in four years, sparking concerns about imminent jet fuel shortages and a surge in global inflation.
