BJP Eyes Landslide Victory in Assam as Election Results Unfold

As counting proceeds for the Assam Assembly elections, early trends suggest a landslide victory for the BJP-led NDA, securing a lead in 97 seats. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is poised for a third term. However, results are still being finalized as the counting continues across the state.

Pijush Hazarika, BJP's candidate from Jagiroad, highlighted on Monday that further time is needed to understand the complete election result picture as the Assam Assembly vote counting continues. Addressing reporters, Hazarika stated that initial trends show 3-4 rounds completed in Assam but cautioned on reading too much into early outcomes. He expects clearer results around 12:30 pm.

Current projections show the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) retaining power in Assam with early Election Commission data indicating the party's commanding lead in 97 seats against Congress' 26, surpassing the 126-seat Assembly majority threshold. This upswing suggests a third term for Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as vote counting advances.

According to the Election Commission of India, as of 11:20 am, the BJP led with 77 seats. The Indian National Congress trailed with 25 seats, while the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) secured 10 seats each. The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) was ahead in 2 seats, and the United People's Party, Liberal (UPPL), and Raijor Dal led in 1 seat each, illustrating BJP's prominent position in the ongoing count.

Contesting in Jalukbari, Sarma maintained a lead with 11,821 votes, outpacing Congress hopeful Bidisha Neog who garnered 4,073 votes after two rounds. Meanwhile, in Jorhat constituency, Congress’ Gaurav Gogoi lagged according to Round 6 of 14 trends, cementing BJP's advantage in this constituency as well.

Also in competition, BJP's Hitendra Nath Goswami maintains 27,903 votes, holding a 9,285 lead over Congress candidate Gogoi with 18,618 votes, keeping the contest intense as counting persists. This robust lead marks a predominant trend in favor of BJP candidates through the state.
