Uttar Pradesh is simplifying its electricity billing process by transitioning prepaid smart meters to postpaid, a move aimed at easing the payment process for consumers. The development follows Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's directives to streamline billing and address consumer grievances effectively, as confirmed by Energy Minister A K Sharma after a recent review meeting.

The updated system will maintain the previous postpaid billing cycle, allowing consumers to receive monthly statements via SMS and WhatsApp, with a designated 15-day period for payment. This change is expected to benefit many consumers across the state, ensuring bills are generated from the first to the last day of each month and dispatched by the 10th, with clear due dates.

Moreover, the government is extending facilities such as addressing billing issues through WhatsApp chatbots and the 1912 portal, and enabling payment of historical dues in up to 10 installments until April 30. To further enhance service delivery, special complaint resolution camps will be organized. The government has also instructed officials to ensure consistent power supply and immediate transformer replacements in case of any failures.
