India Sets Sail: New Ship Repair Facility to Boost Maritime Growth

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by PM Narendra Modi, greenlights a cutting-edge Ship Repair Facility at Vadinar, Gujarat. The Rs.1,570 crore project, a collaboration between Deendayal Port Authority and Cochin Shipyard Limited, aims to enhance India's maritime infrastructure and catalyze regional economic growth.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has sanctioned the establishment of a cutting-edge Ship Repair Facility in Vadinar, Gujarat. This significant initiative marks a comprehensive expansion of India's ship repair capabilities, potentially transforming the national maritime industry.

Announced by Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the project is a joint venture between Deendayal Port Authority and Cochin Shipyard Limited, with a combined investment totaling Rs.1,570 crore. The Vadinar facility will boast a 650-meter jetty, two large floating dry docks, and workshops, strategically positioned to optimize repair operations for large commercial vessels.

The endeavor promises to generate substantial employment opportunities, directly creating approximately 290 jobs and indirectly supporting around 1,100 positions. It is expected to drive regional economic growth, enhance the competitiveness of Indian ports, and support the nation's long-term maritime ambitions as outlined in the Maritime India Vision 2030 and the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.
