The School Education and Literacy Department of the Government of India unveiled the School Management Committee (SMC) Guidelines 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan on Wednesday. The event was marked by the presence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Chhattisgarh Education Minister Gajendra Yadav.
Delhi's Education Minister, Ashish Sood, addressed the assembly, underscoring the guidelines’ symbolic representation of a transformative shift in India's educational landscape. He articulated that achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047 necessitates foundational changes in classrooms. Ashish Sood highlighted the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 as a pivotal force, steering India's educational progress under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dharmendra Pradhan.
Sood pointed out that NEP 2020 dramatically revamps education, encouraging creativity, confidence, and civic responsibility. He described this policy as shifting the focus from rote learning to critical thinking and from examinations to learning. The SMC Guidelines 2026 aim to elevate schools into centers of community life, emphasizing inclusivity, safety, and resource-sharing.
