A fire broke out in a flat located in a 13-storey building in Gujarat's Surat city on Friday morning, and 11 persons were safely rescued from the residential complex, officials said.

Nobody was injured in the incident, they said.

''A blaze erupted on the ninth floor of the 13-storey C-Tower of the high-rise 'Jainam The Grand Ultima' in Vesu area of Surat around 9 am,'' fire officer Rohit Khalashi said.

''The fire broke out in a flat that was locked from outside as no one lived there. At least 11 persons residing in apartments above the affected floor were rescued and brought down safely. No casualty was reported,'' he said.

Eight to nine firefighting vehicles from four different fire stations were pressed into service, and the blaze was brought under control after around two hours, he said.
