Former Himachal Pradesh Congress President Pratibha Singh has expressed strong objections to comparisons being made between Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tenure and that of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Speaking in Shimla, she insisted that leaders should be judged on their contributions rather than the duration of their service. Singh pointed to the significant institutions and modern foundations established under Nehru's leadership, emphasizing the historical contexts that defined his time in office.
Singh criticized the current economic challenges and accused the BJP government of failing to deliver on crucial promises. She highlighted persistent unemployment issues, despite PM Modi's electoral promises to provide millions of job opportunities. In Himachal Pradesh, she claimed that many assurances by the Prime Minister had not materialized at the grassroot level, which she sees as a significant lapse in governance.
Rising inflation and its effects on the average citizen were also highlighted by Singh, who criticized the central government over surging prices of essentials like cooking gas and fuel. Discussing past economic successes, particularly under former PM Manmohan Singh, she dismissed hype over Modi's long tenure as lacking in substantive achievements. Singh asserted that the legacy of the Nehru-Gandhi family in advancing India's development cannot be disparaged, reinforcing Nehru's enduring impact on India's nation-building efforts.
