Himachal's Green Vision: Afforestation and Ecological Valorization by 2030

In a bid to bolster environmental conservation, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced an ambitious target to raise the state's forest cover to 32 percent by 2030. Marking World Environment Day, Sukhu called for increased community participation in afforestation efforts and demanded proper valuation of ecological services provided by hill states.
Launching the Rajiv Gandhi Van Samvardhan Yojana, the Chief Minister underlined financial incentives for community groups engaging in plantation activities. Nearly 68 percent of Himachal Pradesh's geographical area is designated as forest land, with initiatives aiming not just at planting but also ensuring sapling survival and forest protection.
Sukhu emphasized the need for equitable sharing of the benefits and responsibilities of environmental assets, advocating for special assistance from the Centre. While protecting rights over hydropower and managing sustainable transportation, Himachal Pradesh continues its commitment to ecological balance amid changing climate pressures.
