Tamil Nadu Minister and TVK Joint General Secretary CTR Nirmalkumar revealed on Saturday that a full-scale assessment targeting corruption in the Madurai Municipal Corporation is underway, pledging stringent measures against those responsible. Addressing a press conference, Nirmalkumar emphasized, "The known corruption issues are under scrutiny with the District Collector and Municipal Commissioner spearheading the efforts alongside other key officials."
The initiative involves comprehensive reassessments, as Nirmalkumar noted discussions are in progress to systematically tackle the identified violations. A potential revenue loss involving hundreds of crores necessitates the urgent reassessment of past decades to identify causal factors, with consultations between the District Collector and Corporation Commissioner set to outline further proceedings.
A report, jointly issued by the District Collector and Commissioner, will imminently detail the findings of this reassessment. Expected criminal prosecutions and legal actions aim to hold offending parties accountable. The TVK leader stressed the examination of quarry operations for regulatory breaches, asserting that illegal actions will face immediate cessation, as conducted last week. Additionally, urgent solutions for inadequate sewage systems in Madurai are being formulated, targeting temporary alleviations for areas severely affected.
