In response to AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi's criticism of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Telangana, BJP leader Prakash Reddy affirmed the government's commitment to a fair electoral roll update, ensuring no genuine voters are excluded. Reddy clarified that the exercise aims to include new voters with verifiable credentials, born post-2002.
Owaisi, voicing concerns similar to the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, drew parallels with potential discrimination, highlighting Reddy’s assurances fail to address core issues. Owaisi emphasized his remarks intend to inform rather than incite fear among communities.
Referring to the NRC implementation in Assam, he accused Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of bias, underscoring the ethnic dimensions of voter exclusions. Owaisi pointed to statements suggesting identity-based inclusion, questioning the fairness of the process.
