Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kirti Azad has launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging coercion under 'Operation Lotus.' According to Azad, BJP operatives used intimidation tactics, including stationing police outside MP residences and demolishing homes, to pressure TMC members into submission.
Azad specifically highlighted the case of first-time MP Bapi Haldar, whose home was reportedly destroyed. He claims this forced Haldar to endorse BJP's demands, contributing to a two-thirds majority crucial for the BJP. The accusations suggest a coordinated effort spearheaded by BJP leaders, alleged to involve strategic meetings arranged through prominent figures like Bhupender Yadav.
Amidst this backdrop, TMC faces internal upheaval, with several MPs and leaders reportedly in talks with BJP officials, fueling speculation of a shift towards the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Despite reports circulating about this possible realignment, any official merger would necessitate adherence to the anti-defection provision under the Tenth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
