In a reassuring move for Indian agriculture, the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers declared that the country's fertiliser reserves are robust for the Kharif 2026 season, following a landmark 60-day peace accord between the United States and Iran. During a press briefing, Joint Secretary in the Department of Fertilisers, Bandana Preyashi, revealed that the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (DA&FW) adjusted the fertiliser demand to 383.9 lakh metric tonnes (LMT).

Preyashi emphasized the solid stock levels, noting, "The stock as of today is 196.65 LMT, significantly higher than the usual level, standing at 51 per cent compared to the standard 33 per cent." This boost in efficiency is attributed to "better planning, advanced stocking, and efficient logistics management." The Ministry highlighted that farmers have already secured 102.78 LMT of chemical fertilisers, making up 27 per cent of the seasonal requirement.

The ministry also reported a rise in organic manure stocks, which currently stand at 22.67 LMT. Farmers have purchased 11.82 LMT, a significant increase from the previous year's 3.31 LMT. Preyashi suggested the trend indicates a growing shift towards organic agriculture. The Ministry reassured farmers there are no challenges in fertiliser availability this season, with domestic production and imports augmenting supply further.
