On Tuesday, a Bhopal court granted an extension of judicial custody for Samarth Singh and his mother, Giribala Singh, until June 30. The duo, facing charges linked to the alleged dowry harassment and subsequent death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma, appeared via video conferencing, marking the end of their initial 14-day custody.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is leading the investigation into Sharma's death, had sought the extension. Upholding the request, the court confirmed that the accused would remain in custody for an additional fortnight. Earlier, the CBI had brought the pair before the court on June 2 after a five-day custodial remand, which subsequently led to their judicial custody until June 16.
Twisha Sharma, originally from Noida, tragically passed away at her matrimonial residence in Bhopal on May 12, stirring serious allegations from her family regarding dowry harassment. The CBI is closely investigating these claims, supported by evidence, under both the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. The charges against Giribala Singh include accusations of dowry death and cruelty, highlighting the case's seriousness.
