A Bhopal court has extended the judicial custody of Samarth Singh and his mother, Giribala Singh, until June 30. This decision comes in light of the alleged dowry harassment and subsequent death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma. The court appearance was conducted via video conferencing following the completion of the previous 14-day custody period.
During the hearing, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is leading the inquiry, successfully petitioned for an extension of the judicial remand for both accused. The court has now agreed to prolong their detention for an additional 14 days. This extension follows a prior court decision on June 2, which placed the accused in judicial custody after a five-day custodial interrogation.
The investigation centers on the death of Twisha Sharma, who passed away at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12. Her family alleges she endured dowry-related abuse and mental torment by her husband and his family. Consequently, the case was transferred to the CBI for a more thorough investigation under the newly enforced Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.
