Iran to continue to reduce its commitments under nuclear deal JCPOA

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has said that Iran will continue to reduce its commitments under the nuclear deal Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), according to media reports. While on the other hand, Iran Energy Organization spokesman has reportedly said that Iran will not exceed 4.5% for uranium enrichment for the time being and has enough stockpile of enriched uranium for the reactor.

Iran has been threatening to return to the pre-2015 nuclear deal conditions unless European signatories and the United States fulfill their obligations charted in the deal. Last week, Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesman for Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) announced that Iran had surpassed the 4.5% purity level of Uranium enrichment. Iran was not allowed to cross a 3.67 percent purity level according to the 2015 Iran Nuclear Deal.

The deal was signed between Iran and six major powers (five member states of the United Nations Security Council — Russia, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, China, and Germany). The agreement has several provisions to roll back Iran's nuclear weapons program in exchange for lifting sanctions from Iran and integrating it into the world economy. In May 2018, US President Donald Trump announced a unilateral withdrawal from the deal and restored the US sanctions on Iran. On May 8, 2019, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani announced that Tehran would be reducing its commitments under the JCPOA since the other signatories, primarily EU countries, had failed to fulfill their economic obligations under the deal, making it irrelevant.
