Knife crimes in UK surge by 8 pct in last year - official statistics

Reports of knife crime in the United Kingdon have risen by 8 percent to more than 43,500 in one year, according to new statistics released that were today. A significant number of hate crimes and knife attacks were reported during the last year that created panic among residents.

Office of National Statistics reported an 8 percent increase in police-recorded offenses involving a knife or sharp instrument (to 43,516 offenses). This figure excludes Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

The overall rate of crimes, however, was broadly stable over the last year.
