The Solapur Zilla Parishad in Maharashtra has launched an innovative initiative called 'Project Nidan' to provide free breast cancer screenings using portable AI-powered equipment. This project particularly targets women in rural areas who are often too shy to come forward for such screenings.
According to Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Manisha Awhale, the project was started in March and has since reached approximately 5,000 women, screening them for breast cancer with the help of a mobile ambulance fitted with advanced diagnostic technology. The initiative aims to reach 7 lakh women, significantly improving early detection rates.
The project not only offers free diagnoses but also ensures treatment for detected cases. So far, 64 cases were found suspicious, with three turning out positive. With a total budget of Rs 20 lakh, the initiative includes comprehensive care from screening to treatment, aiding early detection and reducing extensive treatment needs.
