Ukraine Calls for ICC to Prosecute Russia Over Children's Hospital Strike
Ukraine's top prosecutor, Andriy Kostin, urges the International Criminal Court (ICC) to prosecute Russia for a missile strike on Kyiv's children's hospital. The incident is part of wider airstrikes in Ukraine, which have killed 44 people. The ICC has visited the site, but Moscow denies the attack.
Ukraine's top prosecutor has urged the International Criminal Court to prosecute Russia for a missile strike that hit a children's hospital in Kyiv earlier this week.
On Monday, Ukraine's capital experienced one of the worst days of airstrikes since the onset of Russia's war. Among the 44 victims were two adults at Okhmatdyt children's hospital, Ukrainian officials reported. 'For the sake of international justice, cases like the intentional attack on the biggest child hospital in Kyiv are worth lifting to the ICC,' Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin told Reuters in an interview in The Hague.
Moscow denies targeting the hospital, attributing the hit to Ukrainian anti-missile fire. However, a U.N. rights mission suggested a 'high likelihood' that the hospital suffered a direct hit from a Russian missile. Ukraine’s security service claims unquestionable evidence that the medical facility was struck by a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile.
