Hospital Tragedy Sparks Indefinite Doctors' Strike Over Safety Concerns

In response to the fatal shooting of Riyazuddin, a patient, inside GTB Hospital, the Residents' Doctors Association launched an indefinite strike highlighting long-standing safety concerns. The brazen killing of Riyazuddin, a patient, inside a GTB Hospital ward on Sunday has triggered an indefinite strike by the facility's Residents' Doctors Association over safety concerns.

The fatal shooting has drawn widespread condemnation from various doctors' bodies. Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj announced a security review for all hospitals, emphasizing that no negligence will be tolerated. The 32-year-old victim was shot dead by a teenager in front of doctors and relatives, leading to a call for immediate security measures.

Riyazuddin had been admitted on June 23 for an abdominal infection and underwent surgery for perforation peritonitis on June 24. The Residents' Doctors Association stated that their repeated appeals for enhanced security were ignored, culminating in this tragic event. They have vowed to continue the strike until essential security improvements are implemented.

The Federation of Resident Doctors Association described the incident as a 'mafia-like killing' and urged for urgent implementation of safety measures, including the tabling of the Central Protection Act in Parliament and the release of Standard Operating Procedures by the Ministry of Health.

Chairperson of the Federation of All India Medical Association, Rohan Krishnan, echoed these demands, criticizing Delhi government hospitals as areas of lawlessness with no effective administration.
