Government Launches Cashless Treatment Scheme for Road Accident Victims
The government has launched a pilot scheme in Chandigarh and Assam to provide cashless treatment to road accident victims. Under the scheme, eligible victims will receive up to Rs 1.5 lakh in health benefits for a maximum of seven days from the accident date, administered through Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri-Jan Arogya Yojana.
The government has introduced a new pilot scheme in Chandigarh and Assam aimed at offering cashless treatment to victims of road accidents, as disclosed to Parliament on Thursday.
In a written statement to the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari detailed that the scheme will provide eligible victims health benefit packages related to trauma and polytrauma care at empanelled hospitals under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri-Jan Arogya Yojana (ABPM-JAY), with a cap of Rs 1.5 lakh for a period of seven days from the incident date.
The initiative, managed in collaboration with the National Health Authority (NHA) and various state and local agencies, aims to extend support to victims irrespective of where the accident occurs, reinforcing the government's commitment to road safety and public health.
