Mystery Surrounds Death of Woman Doctor in Kolkata Hospital

The semi-nude body of a woman post-graduate trainee (PGT) doctor was discovered inside the seminar hall of a government-run hospital in Kolkata on Friday, authorities report.

The deceased, a second-year student in the chest medicine department, had been on duty Thursday night. Her body bore visible injury marks, suggesting a struggle.

Her father has alleged rape and murder, accusing the hospital of trying to conceal the truth. The Chief Minister has assured the family of swift action, while an official investigation is underway, including questioning of five hospital staff.

Health Secretary NS Nigam and Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal have visited the site. A three-member panel has been formed to probe the incident. Additionally, PGT doctors at the hospital have ceased working, barring the Emergency ward, in protest.

Opposition leaders and student associations have joined the call for a thorough and independent investigation. The post-mortem examination report is awaited to provide clarity on the cause of death.
