This new variant of the virus has triggered global concern due to its easier transmission. The World Health Organization advises against travel restrictions despite the outbreak.
Pakistan's health ministry has confirmed the country's first case of the mpox virus, identifying a patient who had recently returned from a Gulf country, officials announced on Friday. Provincial health authorities reported detecting at least three cases in total.
A health ministry spokesperson confirmed that the sequencing of the identified case was underway to determine which variant of the mpox virus is involved. The new variant has raised global concerns due to its increased transmissibility through routine close contact. The World Health Organization has advised against imposing travel restrictions to contain the spread.
Earlier on Friday, northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province health officials reported three cases among patients arriving from the United Arab Emirates. Authorities are conducting contact tracing and enhancing airport monitoring as concerns rise around the spread of this virus, especially given the ongoing outbreak in Africa.
