Goa Doctors End Protest After Government Assurance

Junior and resident doctors in Goa ended their five-day protest against a rape-murder case in Kolkata. The strike, which affected routine services at Goa Medical College and Hospital, concluded after Health Minister Vishwajit Rane assured to address their demands, including increased security at the hospital.

Junior and resident doctors in Goa have called off their five-day protest against a rape-murder case in Kolkata, following assurances from the state government.

The Association of Resident Doctors (GARD) ended the strike after Health Minister Vishwajit Rane pledged to address their demands, including enhanced security measures at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Since Friday, the GARD's strike had affected routine services at GMCH, although emergency services continued uninterrupted.

Following a meeting with Minister Rane and GMCH Dean Dr. Shivanand Bandekar, the protesting doctors agreed to withdraw their strike. Minister Rane informed reporters that the doctors' demands would be presented to the Chief Minister and the cabinet. He also announced the appointment of a doctors' relations officer to address resident doctors' issues and stated that security in and around GMCH would be increased.

Rane remarked on the Goa government's sensitivity to the doctors' demands, contrasting it with the West Bengal government's handling of the situation, despite being led by a woman Chief Minister.
