The Vishnu Deo Sai government in Chhattisgarh has announced a 'historic' pay raise for doctors in state-run medical colleges, effective from September 1, according to an official statement on Friday.

Professors will now earn Rs 2.25 lakh monthly in scheduled areas and Rs 1.9 lakh in non-scheduled areas, up from Rs 1.9 lakh and Rs 1.55 lakh respectively. Associate professors will receive Rs 1.85 lakh in scheduled areas and Rs 1.55 lakh in non-scheduled areas, a significant hike from their previous pay.

Assistant professors and senior residents will also see substantial increases. Assistant professors' salaries will rise to Rs 1.25 lakh in scheduled areas and Rs 1 lakh in non-scheduled areas, while senior residents will now earn Rs 95,000 and Rs 75,000 respectively. Contract-based doctors will benefit from a 46% pay hike in scheduled areas and a 23% increase in non-scheduled areas.

Chhattisgarh Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal emphasized that this decision underscores the government's commitment to expanding medical facilities and enhancing the quality of education and healthcare in the state.
