Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin inaugurated 1,000 'Mudhalvar Marundhagangal' pharmacies, offering medicines at discounted rates, across the state on Monday.

The initiative aims to provide expensive drugs at subsidized prices, alleviating the financial strain on citizens. The project also creates employment for 1,500 pharmacy graduates and diploma holders. Medicines are available at discounts up to 75%, significantly supporting those reliant on long-term prescriptions.

To sustain the venture, pharmacists and cooperative societies received subsidies and financial backing. Entrepreneurs were granted Rs 3 lakh, while cooperative societies were given Rs 2 lakh. Pharmacy stocks are maintained with a three-month supply, ensuring availability across 38 district warehouses.
