Artificial Intelligence (AI) is set to transform India's healthcare landscape, with projections indicating a contribution of USD 25-30 billion to the nation's GDP by 2025. This growth is facilitated by government initiatives like the IndiaAI Mission and the newly enacted Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, which ensure responsible AI integration and enhanced data security.
The Deloitte report, 'Digital Healthcare- Top 10 Myths Debunked Digital Health & AI', reveals that AI adoption in healthcare has outpaced traditional sectors such as FMCG and manufacturing, showing significant promise for the future. However, challenges such as regulatory alignment, workforce training, and infrastructure limitations still need to be addressed for India to become a global leader in AI-powered healthcare.
Despite advancements, the adoption of AI in healthcare lags behind sectors like banking due to concerns about data security and limited digital infrastructure, particularly in rural regions. The shortage of AI-trained professionals also impedes integration. Strategic investments in training, infrastructure, and policy reforms are crucial to accelerate AI adoption for an advanced and self-reliant healthcare system.
