The Delhi government has taken a significant step to reform its healthcare system by mandating that all its hospitals and health centers procure medicines exclusively from Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendras (PMBJK). Local purchases are limited to emergency situations, officials revealed.
This move is intended to infuse transparency into the medicine procurement process, ensure the availability of affordable and quality medicines, and enhance the overall healthcare experience for patients, according to statements from the government.
With the Health Minister Pankaj Singh at the helm, a recent review meeting underscored the importance of these measures. Singh highlighted plans to set up Jan Aushadhi Kendras in six government hospitals, with a view to extending this model across more hospitals, thereby improving patient access to essential medicines.
