Peerless Hospital, based in Kolkata, has officially entered the northeastern medical market with the opening of a 300-bed super-speciality facility in Guwahati, Assam, unveiled on Monday. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma officiated the inauguration at Ahom Gaon, in the Garchuk area.

The Peerless Group, which has a storied history in India starting in finance before branching into healthcare, already operates two hospitals in West Bengal. The Guwahati branch signifies a pivotal expansion into Assam, enhancing the healthcare quality and availability in the region, remarked Sarma.

The hospital, introduced with 100 beds initially and plans to expand to 300 by 2026, will feature advanced specialties in cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, and critical care. According to Peerless Hospital Promoter Jayanta Roy, the facility aims to address the inadequate access to tertiary care in the northeast, offering a solution for patients who frequently travel long distances for such services.
