The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a stern directive to all medical colleges in India, emphasizing the importance of maintaining authentic patient records. This warning comes with the threat of action against both faculty and institutions found guilty of presenting fake records at any time.

According to a public notice from the commission, following an earlier communication from June 4 last year, all medical colleges and institutions within its purview were instructed to ensure the recording of the Ayushman Bharat Health Account identity (ABHA-ID) during patient registration processes.

The commission stressed that this requirement is not being followed uniformly, prompting the latest advisory. The NMC has made it clear that verification of authenticity of records may be part of their assessments, signaling a serious move toward ensuring patient data integrity.
