In Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district, a private hospital operator was arrested after a woman and her newborn died during a delivery procedure earlier this week. Manju Devi, who ran the facility, is now in legal custody, confirmed Superintendent of Police Omveer Singh.
The tragic incident began when Sangeeta Devi, 40, was admitted to a Nagara town hospital on October 19 due to labor pains. Despite the possibility of a normal delivery, her family alleges that an unnecessary caesarean was performed for financial benefit. The procedure resulted in the newborn's death, and Sangeeta's subsequent health decline led to her passing around midnight on Sunday.
Post-incident, the deputy chief medical officer sealed the hospital. An FIR was lodged against Manju Devi following a complaint by the victim's father, invoking sections related to culpable homicide and violations under the National Medical Commission Act.
