In Delhi, air pollution has become the foremost health hazard, linked to 15% of all deaths in the city for 2023, according to Global Burden of Disease data.
Analysis by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation revealed 17,188 fatalities due to particulate matter exposure, sparking concerns over its impact on public health.
Despite government reluctance to confirm a direct causation link, experts urge for urgent interventions to mitigate pollution's severe effects on health, warning that conditions like respiratory illnesses and heart disease will continue to rise if air quality remains unchecked.
