The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) under the Ministry of Ayush, through its Bengaluru-based Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI), is set to organise a landmark International Conference on Ayurveda and Integrative Approaches to Obesity & Metabolic Syndrome on 1–2 December 2025. The prestigious event will be held at the A.V. Rama Rao Auditorium of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, coinciding with the celebration of CCRAS’s 57th Foundation Day.

Organised in collaboration with IISc Bengaluru and NIMHANS, the conference brings together experts in Ayurveda, modern medicine, public health, biomedical sciences, and translational research. The aim is to forge science-driven, integrative solutions for obesity and metabolic disorders—conditions that constitute one of the world’s most significant public health emergencies.

Strengthening India’s Leadership in Evidence-Based Integrative Healthcare

Highlighting the importance of the initiative, Hon’ble Minister of State (IC) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, emphasised that India is rapidly emerging as a global hub for integrative healthcare.

“Obesity and metabolic disorders are among the most pressing public-health challenges of our time. This conference reflects our resolve to strengthen evidence-based approaches that combine Ayurveda with modern biomedical science,” he said.

The Minister added that the Government of India remains committed to promoting research, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration across health systems.

Ayurveda’s Holistic Approach Central to Tackling Metabolic Disorders

The Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, highlighted that metabolic diseases require collaborative, multi-disciplinary solutions. Ayurveda’s preventive, personalised, and holistic philosophy offers significant potential to complement modern medical advancements. He noted that the conference will help shape India's global leadership in integrative research and support evidence-based health policy development.

Dr. Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General of CCRAS, stated:

“As metabolic diseases escalate at an alarming rate, Ayurveda offers powerful and practical solutions rooted in holistic science. This conference is designed to bridge traditional knowledge with cutting-edge biomedical research.”

He reiterated CCRAS’s commitment to spearheading integrative research that contributes to translational science and global health policy.

Scientific Leadership and Research Publications to Take Centre Stage

Dr. Sucholachana Bhatt, Unit Head and Organizing Secretary, stated that the two-day event will bring together some of the world’s most distinguished experts in Ayurveda and biomedicine.

Key highlights include:

  • Release of a special issue of JDRAS (Journal of Drug Research in Ayurveda and Siddha) focusing on Obesity & Metabolic Disorders

  • Launch of 10 new CCRAS publications

  • Presentation of cutting-edge research on integrative therapies and diagnostic innovations

  • Discussions on the convergence of Ayurveda with genomic science, molecular biology, and advanced diagnostics

The focus remains on delivering scientifically validated, patient-centric, and scalable solutions to global health challenges.

Extensive Academic Programme Featuring Renowned International Experts

The academic programme comprises:

  • 16 keynote and plenary talks by eminent scientists and clinicians

  • 267 oral presentations

  • 120 virtual paper presentations

  • 70 posters spanning Ayurveda, biomedicine, public health, and translational sciences

  • A dedicated symposium on Type-2 Diabetes, Obesity, and Dyslipidemia focusing on integrative management pathways

The conference demonstrates how modern evidence-based frameworks can seamlessly integrate with classical Ayurvedic principles to address emerging lifestyle-related diseases.

Specialised Workshops and Public Health Initiatives

A specialised Workshop on Nanotechnology and Molecular Biology will be conducted on 2 December at the TCS Smart-X Hub, IISc, offering participants hands-on exposure to advanced scientific tools and techniques.

Additionally, a Health Screening Camp organised by Samatvam, PathShodh, and CARI Bengaluru will be operational throughout the conference, offering screenings for metabolic and lifestyle disorders.

Pre-conference virtual deliberations were held from 25–27 November 2025, facilitating global participation and setting the stage for high-quality discussions during the main event.

Over 700 Delegates Expected to Participate

More than 700 delegates, including researchers, clinicians, academicians, post-graduate scholars, and international experts, are expected to attend. The overwhelming response highlights the growing interest in integrative medical research, especially in the context of rising global concerns around obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome.

A Vision Aligned With India’s Holistic Healthcare Goals

The International Conference underscores CCRAS’s long-term mission to:

  • Strengthen integrative health research

  • Enhance global collaborations

  • Promote evidence-based innovation

  • Shape policy directions aligned with national and global health priorities

As India gains international recognition for its pioneering work in Ayurveda-based and integrative medical research, events like this reaffirm the nation's commitment to building a healthier, more resilient, and scientifically empowered future.
