The Indian government has launched various initiatives aimed at reducing the maternal mortality rate, which has emerged as a significant success story, according to Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel.

Patel, speaking during the Rajya Sabha's Question Hour, highlighted the effective interventions under schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan, which have helped bring India's rate of maternal mortality down from 130 to 88 per lakh live births.

Further commenting, Patel noted that the country's decline rate of 86% in maternal mortality exceeds the global average reduction rate of 48%, underscoring India's dedication towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) targets.
