A 75-year-old woman, admitted to PBM Hospital's Acharya Tulsi cancer wing in Rajasthan's Bikaner, experienced a health scare due to a blood transfusion error. She was mistakenly given a blood type that did not match her own, resulting in her sudden deterioration.
Hospital sources revealed that Bhawani Devi was being treated for severe anaemia when an incompatible unit of B positive blood was allegedly transfused instead of her required A positive blood. The mistake was caught by a vigilant relative who noticed the discrepancy, prompting immediate cessation of the transfusion and emergency treatment.
Following the intervention, Devi's condition stabilized, and an inquiry has been ordered by hospital administration to investigate the mix-up. Sardar Patel Medical College's principal, Dr Surendra Verma, assured that strict action will be taken against those found responsible in the probe.
